’60 Minutes’ Correspondent Scott Pelley Sells Connecticut Mansion at a Loss

Scott Pelley Sells Connecticut Home
realtor.com, Michele Crowe/CBS/Getty “60 Minutes” correspondent Scott Pelley has finally sold his Darien, CT, home for a loss.

The former “CBS Evening News” host initially listed the home in 2017 for $3,985,000. But with no takers, the listing eventually came off the market.

In June 2019, the home was relisted for $3.25 million, and in September 2020, it was sold for $2.75 million. Pelley had purchased the place in 2007 for $4 million.

Built in 2002, the five-bedroom, seven-bath estate is situated on a cul-de-sac. Its 2.4 acres include level land and manicured lawns.

The elegant entry features a dramatic double staircase. The open floor plan offers 7,532 square feet of living space that blends traditional features with modern upgrades.

The chef’s kitchen includes double ovens, a gas cooktop, and island with bar seating. It opens to a sunny family room with views of the property and pond. For the work-from-home crowd, the mansion offers a spacious office with wood paneling and fireplace.

There’s also reportedly a studio, which allowed Pelley to work on “60 Minutes” segments from home—and which he dubbed the Darien bureau.

The upper level includes the master suite, which features a massive walk-in closet, large sitting room, fireplace, and balcony overlooking the backyard.

The master bath includes a soaking tub, stand-in shower, and dual vanities. The remaining bedrooms are also on the upper level. Other spots in the home to unwind in include a library, terrace, and basement.

In 2016, Pelley, a Texas native, purchased a 24-acre Texas ranch for $1,250,000, according to the New York Post. Closer to his New York office,  he and his wife, June, maintain a two-bedroom Manhattan condo, which they reportedly picked up for $2.25 million in 2016.

Pelley has been a correspondent and anchor for CBS News for more than 31 years. He served as the anchor of the “CBS Evening News” from 2011 to 2017. Hemsworth Brothers Stage Successful Sale of Their Malibu Retreat

Hemsworth Brothers Malibu Home SaleBarry King/Getty Images

Malibu residents will be seeing a little less of the hunky Hemsworth brothers in the future. Chris, Liam, and Luke Hemsworth have just let their California family retreat go, for $4.25 million. It initially landed on the market in September for $4.9 million.

The sale price may sound disappointing, until you consider the fact that the A-list Aussies bought the architectural modern overlooking the Pacific Ocean in March 2016 for $3,450,000.

Shed no tears for the bros, who are among Hollywood’s hottest commodities. It may be they’re just too busy with their careers, and don’t have the time to relax together as they used to.

It’s reported that the brothers were fond of gathering in the four-bedroom, four-bathroom, 4,612-square-foot home with views of both mountains and coastline.

Tall ceilings accommodated their height, and a chef’s kitchen with restaurant-grade Viking, Wolfe, and Sub-Zero appliances, as well as a 750-bottle refrigerated wine cellar, accommodated their appetites.

The grown-ups will enjoy the luxurious master suite, with its views, dual walk-in closets, and spa bathroom with a steam shower and Calacatta gold marble. The dual walk-in closets are also an asset, as are the dual walk-in closets and the towering art walls, ideal for hanging artwork or movie posters.

The grounds also accommodate a getaway lifestyle. The property is gated and secured, and the house is accessed by a long driveway.

There’s plenty of privacy, but also plenty of open space outdoors. Families could enjoy a spacious dining deck, an outdoor fireplace, gardens, mature landscaping, as well as rolling lawns and natural gardens.

Even during the pandemic, the Hemsworth brothers have remained in the limelight in Hollywood, with Chris, the middle brother, a staple in the Marvel Universe, as Thor.

The youngest brother, Liam, is perhaps best known for franchises like “The Hunger Games” and the “The Expendables,” but he also has other big- and small-screen projects under his belt.

Luke, the eldest brother, has been nominated for an award for his ongoing role in the HBO hit “Westworld.”

Eric Haskell of The Agency represented the Hemsworths, while Chris Cortazzo and Susan Saul represented the buyer.

Beverly Park, a Privacy Haven for Hollywood’s Biggest Celebrities

Some call it a desperate need for privacy and security. Others call it conscious alienation and paranoia. Whatever the reason, one thing’s clear: the world’s wealthiest all want to live in Beverly Park, Los Angeles’ richest and most exclusive neighborhood.

What exactly is so special about Beverly Park?, you might ask. Don’t feel bad about not knowing the answer, because the amount of privacy and security around this neighborhood is insane, and that’s exactly why celebrities want to live here.

First of all, you can’t just go take a stroll through Beverly Park in hopes of running into Mark Wahlberg or Samuel L. Jackson (two of the biggest names on the neighborhood roster). This ultra-exclusive gated community is out of reach even for paparazzis. There are basically no sidewalks, and taking photos is strictly prohibited. But who needs sidewalks when each property spans across acres and acres of land? There is plenty of room for celebrities to roam around without running into neighbors, visitors, or the prying eyes of the press.

Because of the unrivaled privacy and massive land plots, Beverly Park has become the most sought-after residential destination for the wealthy. It’s actually the richest neighborhood in Los Angeles, home to A-listers in industries like show business, technology, and finance. But how did Beverly Park come to earn its status of the highest-earning neighborhood in L.A.? Let’s go back to see how this Hollywood hotspot first took shape.

The history of Beverly Park

During the 1960s, the area now known as Beverly Park was eyed to become a country club-slash-golf-course for Hollywood’s elite. However, in the 1970s, developers Brian Adler and Elliot Gottfurcht joined forces to turn Beverly Park into “an idyllic community of historic-feeling grand estates that would feel like Beverly Hills of yesteryear.”

Beverly Park stretches between Mulholland Drive, Sunset Boulevard, Coldwater Canyon Drive, and Beverly Glen Boulevard. It’s divided into two communities, namely South Beverly Park and North Beverly Park. They both boast the famous Beverly Hills Post Office 90210 zip code, even though they’re located in the city of Los Angeles.

Map of Beverly Park, Los Angeles
Map of Beverly Park, Los Angeles (via Google Maps)

North Beverly Park is the larger of the two communities, encompassing 64 homes, while South Beverly Park is home to merely 16 residences. North Beverly Park is more upscale than the South section, boasting significantly higher prices and an entrance on Mulholland Drive. Interestingly enough, residents of the two communities don’t always see eye to eye, even if they’re basically part of the same neighborhood.

In 2008, residents were embroiled in a legal battle concerning the rights of South Beverly Park to use the northern gates at Mulholland Drive. It wasn’t your usual, boring court battle: among the plaintiffs were famous residents like Samuel L. Jackson and Magic Johnson, among others. The dispute was triggered when North Beverly Park restricted access to South Beverly Park via the Mulholland Drive entrance, citing security concerns. After a long legal battle, the courts decided South Beverly residents could use the northern gates freely, but the disagreements left a sour taste for both communities.

The high profile residents

You know how in some cities in the U.S., local governments impose limits on how big residences can be? Think of that stunner of a mansion featured on Netflix’s Selling Sunset. It’s reportedly the last project of its size to be built in Los Angeles, as the local council voted to regulate the size of new homes in 2017.

Believe it or not, in Beverly Park, a requirement is in place that says homes in this neighborhood must be at least 5,000 square feet in size. Nobody seems too upset about that, given that homes in Beverly Park average roughly 20,000 square feet or more.

This 5,000-square-foot-minimum rule, which is part of a 70-page property covenant that Beverly Park residents must abide by, is by no means a problem for celebrities. ‘The bigger, the better’ is a motto that famous Beverly Park residents like Mark Wahlberg, Eddie Murphy, Magic Johnson, or Silvester Stallone swear by.

But one of Beverly Park’s most famous residents is none other than Lisa Vanderpump, aka one of the Housewives of Beverly Hills. A few years back, Vanderpump was living in a palatial mansion designed by Richard Landry, and this mansion made multiple appearances in the popular TV show. The neighborhood is by no means stranger to massive mega-mansions, but the Vanderpump estate definitely stood out in its opulence.

Lisa Vanderpump's former Beverly Park home

Fast forward a couple of seasons, and Vanderpump reportedly decided to ‘downsize,’ moving to a gorgeous Beverly Hills residence dubbed Villa Rosa. Her former Beverly Park palace ended up being demolished by the new owners, but luckily we still have plenty of glamorous footage to rewatch if we get nostalgic. A bit of fun trivia for you here: the old mansion’s façade was used in the first season of Schitt’s Creek

If you’re feeling sad that your favorite housewife has parted ways with Beverly Park, worry not, because there are still plenty of celebrities in the neighborhood. Notable residents include Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Rod Stewart, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kimora Lee Simmons, among many others.

The priciest home in the neighborhood

All the homes in Beverly Park are massive, uber-glamorous and jam-packed with amenities and state-of-the-art security features. But there is one property that stands out from all the others, and it’s got an equally impressive price tag. Yes, we’re talking about Villa Firenze, a 20,000-square-foot, 13-bedroom estate that could become the priciest home ever to hit an auction. Rumor has it that the jaw-dropping property is hitting the auction block with a $160 million price tag, just $1 million shy of the previous record-holder, a $159 million Florida listing auctioned off in 2018.

You might ask yourself, what’s so special about this residence that makes it worthy of such a high price tag? Well, besides the 13 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms and 8 powder rooms, Villa Firenze also comes with a home theater, a wine cellar, a gym, a library, a private office, and even maids’ quarters. But that’s not all. There’s also a 30-car courtyard, a tennis court, a massive swimming pool, and even a walking/jogging trail surrounding the estate!

Bidding for Villa Firenze starts Tuesday, January 26th, and the highest bidder will become the lucky owner of this ultra-luxurious property. So, if you want to compete with the likes of Denzel and the Vanderpumps, this is your chance. You can register to bid on the Concierge Auctions website. Fingers crossed!

New to Market: Matt Damon’s Zen Los Angeles Home Asks $21 Million

As part of his plan of leaving Los Angeles and moving his family to the Big Apple, Matt Damon has now listed his Pacific Palisades home for sale. And he’s hoping to cash in big from the sale, asking $21 million for the Zen-inspired contemporary home set in one of LA’s most desirable neighborhoods.

Recently listed with Eric Haskell, an agent with celebrity real estate brokerage The Agency, Matt Damon’s house is an architectural masterpiece with 7 bedrooms, 10 baths, tons of distinct design features and some pretty extraordinary amenities. The Academy Award-winning actor will be trading all this for a 6,000-square-foot penthouse in Brooklyn, New York, having broken records last year by paying $16.745 million for the top floor unit of a famous former hotel, The Standish.

An architectural gem with striking features & Instagram-worthy interiors

Designed by award-winning architect Grant Kirkpatrick, founding partner of leading-edge design studio KAA Design Group, Matt Damon’s house is an extraordinary contemporary home that showcases masterful craftmanship throughout its 13,508-square-foot interiors.

With a modern-yet-timeless design, the house is anchored by a breathtaking atrium with 35-foot mahogany vaulted ceilings. The interiors are bathed in natural light and mix warm wood elements with natural stone, giving the whole space an inviting, relaxing vibe. Other striking features that deserve a shout-out: clerestory windows and glass walls that fuse the indoors with the outdoor areas.

The family room opens to the magnificent chef’s kitchen with custom mahogany cabinetry, Bluestone countertops and stainless steel Viking, Wolf and Miele appliances. The kitchen then opens to the expansive backyard retreat (but more on that in a minute).

All in all, Matt Damon’s soon-to-be former Los Angeles abode packs 7 bedrooms and 10 baths across 13,508 square feet of space. The primary suite comes with its own private terrace, dual dressing rooms, massage room and a spa-style bath with soaking tub and expansive shower. Pretty much every room offers leafy property and treetop views, adding an extra note of serenity to this wonderfully Zen-inspired home.

Amenities galore and a wonderful backyard retreat

Most celebrity homes tend to outdo themselves when it comes to amenities and bonus rooms and Matt Damon’s house is no exception. Interior amenities include a game room, bar, office, gym, plush media room, staff quarters and wine storage and tasting room. And that’s just what you’ll find inside the house.

Outside, the modern home has quite a few amenities that invite calm and relaxation (perfectly in tune with the rest of the house), including an expansive pool, spa, a cascading waterfall, koi pond and Hawaiian-inspired Lanai with a covered lounge and alfresco dining terrace. To appeal to the little ones — Damon is a father of four — there’s also a nice children’s play area.

Matt Damon’s next home is vastly different from his Los Angeles digs

The Academy Award-winning actor, who is starring in the highly anticipated Ridley Scott-directed The Last Duel (to be released this year), will soon be leaving Los Angeles behind. The move has long been planned, with Damon and wife Luciana Bozán Barroso having purchased a Brooklyn Heights penthouse two years ago for a record-breaking price.

The couple paid $16.745 million for a 6-bedroom, 6,201-square-foot penthouse at The Standish — a historically significant converted building that was originally built in 1903 as a Beaux Arts hotel. At the time, Damon’s purchase set a new record for the borough, making him the owner of the most expensive property ever sold in Brooklyn.

Despite the fact that the penthouse consists of several units merged for extra space, the actor will be downsizing considerably. And the loss in square footage is matched by a significant downgrade in outdoor space — though it’s worth noting that Matt Damon’s new home does have an expansive terrace, a rarity for New York City. There’s no Zen backyard pool though, so we’re pretty sure the Good Will Hunting actor will, at times, miss his Pacific Palisades retreat.

According to a report in Variety, Puig purchased the property in 2017 for $2.65 million.

In 2015, he bought an estate in Sherman Oaks, CA, for $1.8 million.

According to property records, Puig currently owns three other properties. Two are located in Miami-Dade County: A six-bedroom home he purchased in 2012 for $1.5 million, and another brand-new home purchased in early 2018 for an undisclosed price.

Puig’s third home is located in Avondale, AZ. He purchased that four-bedroom desert home in early 2017 for $295,000.

Puig, 30, didn’t play at all in the truncated 2020 MLB season. In 2019, he split his time between the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Indians after starring with the Dodgers for six seasons.

A native of Cuba, he was the runner-up for the National League Rookie of the Year in 2013 and was named an All-Star in 2014. He’s currently a free agent.

Puig was represented by Felicia G. Morris with Searchlight Realty.

Extreme Makeover’s Ty Pennington Lists Bright and Beautiful Venice Beach Home

Reality TV star Ty Pennington, known for changing people’s lives with his energetic personality on the original version of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, is now looking to cash in on his own home makeover. Pennington has just listed his house — a beautiful and bright 1927 Craftsman in Venice, Calif. — for $2,795,000.

Pennington put his home design expertise to good use and carefully restored the property earlier this year with the help of his trusted interior designer, Patrick Delanty. Delanty, also known to be Halle Berry’s designer, has long been working alongside Ty Pennington, serving as his design director for Extreme Makeover and running his on-air design segments, most notably his presence on The Oprah Winfrey Show, Rachel Ray Show, NBC’s Nightline and Good Morning America.

Just like its reality TV star owner, the home is bright, cheerful and quirky, with colorful interiors exuding creativity and style. The property is listed by Patrice Meepos of Compass.

The ground level hosts the kitchen, laundry room, and bedroom with direct backyard access, as well as a full bath. On the upper level, there’s a master retreat and a second bedroom.

Ty Pennington added quite a few special touches to the 2,102-square-foot home, including bamboo flooring, baths adorned in vintage-inspired ceramic tile, a master bath sporting a standalone shower and an antique cast-iron freestanding tub, kitchen with concrete countertops and a wraparound, porcelain-tiled porch. There’s also a beautiful backyard that looks like a great place to entertain guests.

While Ty Pennington did not return to host HGTV’s 2020 version of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (which is hosted by Modern Family‘s Jesse Tyler Ferguson), you can catch the two time Emmy award winner in his other home improvement series, Trading Spaces — which recently restarted airing after a 10-year hiatus.

You can also get more tips from the home design expert from his latest book, Good Design Can Change Your Life, which is an intimate look at Ty’s design inspirations and is full of décor advice and tips. While we haven’t yet had the chance to pick up the book ourselves, according to his website the book is part reference, and part behind-the-scenes from Ty’s own home remodeling, which means the Venice home is already a bookshelf hit.

Sylvester Stallone Reportedly Buys Palm Beach Compound for $35.3M

Sylvester Stallone has punched up a purchase in Palm Beach, FL. According to the Palm Beach Daily News, the Hollywood legend has scored a compound in the Sunshine State.

The star of “Rocky” reportedly paid $35,375,000 for the waterfront spread. The property, listed in “pending sale” status, came on the market in June for $37.85 million. Stallone seems to have snagged a minor discount.

With seven bedrooms, 10 full bathrooms, and two half-bathrooms, the mansion, built in 2014, offers 13,241 square feet of living space and 250 feet of sandy beach on the lake, the listing description states.

What it describes as a “sensational estate” offers three structures, which include a main house, guesthouse, guest pavilion, and an open cabana across from the pool.

The waterfront property also offers a boat dock and is designed with “casual elegance” in mind. Modern interiors include multiple living spaces, a formal dining room, a huge eat-in kitchen, and multiple French doors that open to the lawn outside.

A spacious master suite features a sitting area, private balcony,  enormous walk-in closet, and bathroom.

In addition, the layout includes a gym, wine storage, library, and a family room with a wet bar. Outside, the grounds feature a pool with a beachfront spa that practically touches the lake.

Stallone joins numerous other celebs in the area. Jon Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart, the author James Patterson, and the former wife of Tiger Woods, the model Elin Nordegren, own homes in the upscale enclave. President Donald Trump‘s Mar-a-Lago is also nearby.

The “Rambo” star has been busy on the real estate front. This spring, he placed his desert getaway in La Quinta, CA, on the market for $3.35 million.

Stallone bought the four-bedroom home, located inside the Madison Club, for $4.5 million in 2010. But it eventually became expendable. He wound up selling the golf retreat at a loss, for $3.15 million.

Stallone, 74, has been a screen star for decades. He’s known for the “Rocky” series, which more recently led to the spinoff “Creed” films.

Lawrence Moens with Lawrence A. Moens Associates holds the listing.
