’60 Minutes’ Correspondent Scott Pelley Sells Connecticut Mansion at a Loss

The former “CBS Evening News” host initially listed the home in 2017 for $3,985,000. But with no takers, the listing eventually came off the market.
In June 2019, the home was relisted for $3.25 million, and in September 2020, it was sold for $2.75 million. Pelley had purchased the place in 2007 for $4 million.
Built in 2002, the five-bedroom, seven-bath estate is situated on a cul-de-sac. Its 2.4 acres include level land and manicured lawns.
The elegant entry features a dramatic double staircase. The open floor plan offers 7,532 square feet of living space that blends traditional features with modern upgrades.

The chefâs kitchen includes double ovens, a gas cooktop, and island with bar seating. It opens to a sunny family room with views of the property and pond. For the work-from-home crowd, the mansion offers a spacious office with wood paneling and fireplace.
There’s also reportedly a studio, which allowed Pelley to work on “60 Minutes” segments from homeâand which he dubbed the Darien bureau.
The upper level includes the master suite, which features a massive walk-in closet, large sitting room, fireplace, and balcony overlooking the backyard.

The master bath includes a soaking tub, stand-in shower, and dual vanities. The remaining bedrooms are also on the upper level. Other spots in the home to unwind in include a library, terrace, and basement.
In 2016, Pelley, a Texas native, purchased a 24-acre Texas ranch for $1,250,000, according to the New York Post. Closer to his New York office, he and his wife, June, maintain a two-bedroom Manhattan condo, which they reportedly picked up for $2.25 million in 2016.

Malibu residents will be seeing a little less of the hunky Hemsworth brothers in the future. Chris, Liam, and Luke Hemsworth have just let their California family retreat go, for $4.25 million. It initially landed on the market in September for $4.9 million.
The sale price may sound disappointing, until you consider the fact that the A-list Aussies bought the architectural modern overlooking the Pacific Ocean in March 2016 for $3,450,000.
Shed no tears for the bros, who are among Hollywood’s hottest commodities. It may be they’re just too busy with their careers, and don’t have the time to relax together as they used to.
It’s reported that the brothers were fond of gathering in the four-bedroom, four-bathroom, 4,612-square-foot home with views of both mountains and coastline.
Tall ceilings accommodated their height, and a chef’s kitchen with restaurant-grade Viking, Wolfe, and Sub-Zero appliances, as well as a 750-bottle refrigerated wine cellar, accommodated their appetites.

Beverly Park, a Privacy Haven for Hollywoodâs Biggest Celebrities
Some call it a desperate need for privacy and security. Others call it conscious alienation and paranoia. Whatever the reason, one thingâs clear: the worldâs wealthiest all want to live in Beverly Park, Los Angelesâ richest and most exclusive neighborhood.
What exactly is so special about Beverly Park?, you might ask. Donât feel bad about not knowing the answer, because the amount of privacy and security around this neighborhood is insane, and thatâs exactly why celebrities want to live here.
First of all, you canât just go take a stroll through Beverly Park in hopes of running into Mark Wahlberg or Samuel L. Jackson (two of the biggest names on the neighborhood roster). This ultra-exclusive gated community is out of reach even for paparazzis. There are basically no sidewalks, and taking photos is strictly prohibited. But who needs sidewalks when each property spans across acres and acres of land? There is plenty of room for celebrities to roam around without running into neighbors, visitors, or the prying eyes of the press.

Because of the unrivaled privacy and massive land plots, Beverly Park has become the most sought-after residential destination for the wealthy. Itâs actually the richest neighborhood in Los Angeles, home to A-listers in industries like show business, technology, and finance. But how did Beverly Park come to earn its status of the highest-earning neighborhood in L.A.? Letâs go back to see how this Hollywood hotspot first took shape.
The history of Beverly Park
During the 1960s, the area now known as Beverly Park was eyed to become a country club-slash-golf-course for Hollywoodâs elite. However, in the 1970s, developers Brian Adler and Elliot Gottfurcht joined forces to turn Beverly Park into âan idyllic community of historic-feeling grand estates that would feel like Beverly Hills of yesteryear.â
Beverly Park stretches between Mulholland Drive, Sunset Boulevard, Coldwater Canyon Drive, and Beverly Glen Boulevard. Itâs divided into two communities, namely South Beverly Park and North Beverly Park. They both boast the famous Beverly Hills Post Office 90210 zip code, even though theyâre located in the city of Los Angeles.

North Beverly Park is the larger of the two communities, encompassing 64 homes, while South Beverly Park is home to merely 16 residences. North Beverly Park is more upscale than the South section, boasting significantly higher prices and an entrance on Mulholland Drive. Interestingly enough, residents of the two communities donât always see eye to eye, even if theyâre basically part of the same neighborhood.
In 2008, residents were embroiled in a legal battle concerning the rights of South Beverly Park to use the northern gates at Mulholland Drive. It wasnât your usual, boring court battle: among the plaintiffs were famous residents like Samuel L. Jackson and Magic Johnson, among others. The dispute was triggered when North Beverly Park restricted access to South Beverly Park via the Mulholland Drive entrance, citing security concerns. After a long legal battle, the courts decided South Beverly residents could use the northern gates freely, but the disagreements left a sour taste for both communities.

The high profile residents
You know how in some cities in the U.S., local governments impose limits on how big residences can be? Think of that stunner of a mansion featured on Netflix’s Selling Sunset. It’s reportedly the last project of its size to be built in Los Angeles, as the local council voted to regulate the size of new homes in 2017.
Believe it or not, in Beverly Park, a requirement is in place that says homes in this neighborhood must be at least 5,000 square feet in size. Nobody seems too upset about that, given that homes in Beverly Park average roughly 20,000 square feet or more.
This 5,000-square-foot-minimum rule, which is part of a 70-page property covenant that Beverly Park residents must abide by, is by no means a problem for celebrities. âThe bigger, the betterâ is a motto that famous Beverly Park residents like Mark Wahlberg, Eddie Murphy, Magic Johnson, or Silvester Stallone swear by.Â
But one of Beverly Parkâs most famous residents is none other than Lisa Vanderpump, aka one of the Housewives of Beverly Hills. A few years back, Vanderpump was living in a palatial mansion designed by Richard Landry, and this mansion made multiple appearances in the popular TV show. The neighborhood is by no means stranger to massive mega-mansions, but the Vanderpump estate definitely stood out in its opulence.

Fast forward a couple of seasons, and Vanderpump reportedly decided to âdownsize,â moving to a gorgeous Beverly Hills residence dubbed Villa Rosa. Her former Beverly Park palace ended up being demolished by the new owners, but luckily we still have plenty of glamorous footage to rewatch if we get nostalgic. A bit of fun trivia for you here: the old mansionâs façade was used in the first season of Schittâs Creek.
If youâre feeling sad that your favorite housewife has parted ways with Beverly Park, worry not, because there are still plenty of celebrities in the neighborhood. Notable residents include Faith Hill and Tim McGraw, Rod Stewart, Denzel Washington, Samuel L. Jackson, and Kimora Lee Simmons, among many others.
The priciest home in the neighborhood
All the homes in Beverly Park are massive, uber-glamorous and jam-packed with amenities and state-of-the-art security features. But there is one property that stands out from all the others, and itâs got an equally impressive price tag. Yes, weâre talking about Villa Firenze, a 20,000-square-foot, 13-bedroom estate that could become the priciest home ever to hit an auction. Rumor has it that the jaw-dropping property is hitting the auction block with a $160 million price tag, just $1 million shy of the previous record-holder, a $159 million Florida listing auctioned off in 2018.

You might ask yourself, whatâs so special about this residence that makes it worthy of such a high price tag? Well, besides the 13 bedrooms, 17 bathrooms and 8 powder rooms, Villa Firenze also comes with a home theater, a wine cellar, a gym, a library, a private office, and even maidsâ quarters. But thatâs not all. Thereâs also a 30-car courtyard, a tennis court, a massive swimming pool, and even a walking/jogging trail surrounding the estate!
Bidding for Villa Firenze starts Tuesday, January 26th, and the highest bidder will become the lucky owner of this ultra-luxurious property. Recently listed with Eric Haskell, an agent with celebrity real estate brokerage The Agency, Matt Damon’s house is an architectural masterpiece with 7 bedrooms, 10 baths, tons of distinct design features and some pretty extraordinary amenities. The Academy Award-winning actor will be trading all this for a 6,000-square-foot penthouse in Brooklyn, New York, having broken records last year by paying $16.745 million for the top floor unit of a famous former hotel, The Standish.

Matt Damon’s next home is vastly different from his Los Angeles digs
The Academy Award-winning actor, who is starring in the highly anticipated Ridley Scott-directed The Last Duel (to be released this year), will soon be leaving Los Angeles behind. The move has long been planned, with Damon and wife Luciana Bozán Barroso having purchased a Brooklyn Heights penthouse two years ago for a record-breaking price.
The couple paid $16.745 million for a 6-bedroom, 6,201-square-foot penthouse at The Standish — a historically significant converted building that was originally built in 1903 as a Beaux Arts hotel. At the time, Damon’s purchase set a new record for the borough, making him the owner of the most expensive property ever sold in Brooklyn.
Despite the fact that the penthouse consists of several units merged for extra space, the actor will be downsizing considerably. And the loss in square footage is matched by a significant downgrade in outdoor space — though it’s worth noting that Matt Damon’s new home does have an expansive terrace, a rarity for New York City. There’s no Zen backyard pool though, so we’re pretty sure the Good Will Hunting actor will, at times, miss his Pacific Palisades retreat.
